BOURBON - The Triton High School Athletic Department, in conjunction with the Triton Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee, has decided that it is in the best interest to cancel this year’s Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. With the uncertainty, we are facing due to COVID-19, and for the longevity and sustainability of providing an athletic hall of fame that year in and year out inducts candidates that performed at a level of excellence, the committee feels that a one year break is needed.
The Triton Athletic Hall of Fame began as a vision of Athletic Director Mason McIntyre, to recognize some of Triton High School’s finest student-athletes, coaches, and contributors. The past 55 years at Triton High School have provided innumerable celebrations of noted accomplishment and lasting memories. Our Hall of Fame provides a similar special opportunity to recognize the contributions of coaches, student-athletes, and contributors.
The Hall of Fame’s inaugural class was inducted in February of 2011 at the Matchett Center in Bourbon. Over the last decade, the Triton Athletic Hall of Fame has inducted twelve contributors, nine coaches, twenty-six athletes, and one team. We have enjoyed induction banquets at the Back 40 in Bourbon, as well as the old Bourbon High School gymnasium, recognizing the 1965 Triton Boys Basketball team who finished runner-up at the semi-state. These athletes, coaches, and contributors have set themselves apart on the playing fields and the courts of Triton High School and beyond, and we are extremely grateful for the opportunity to have recognized these outstanding individuals.
The Hall of Fame is proud of the past inductees and their accomplishments and contributions to the Triton School Corporation, and we look forward to inducting a new class into the Triton Athletic Hall of Fame in February of 2022. The selection committee is always looking for new candidates and if you or someone you know should be considered, we ask that you please help provide some information to the selection committee. The best way to do this is to complete the “Former Student-Athlete Survey” at www.triton.k12.in.us/FormerStudentAthleteSurvey.aspx If you know of a coach or a contributor that should be considered, please feel free to email that information to Triton High School Athletic Director, Mason McIntyre, at mmcintyre@triton.k12.in.us
The future classes of the Triton Athletic Hall of Fame prove to be promising, and it is the hope of the Triton Athletic Hall of Fame that you will be able to join us in 2022, as we honor the “uncommon,” and induct the 11th class into the Hall of Fame.
